Our story

A family-run Palestinian café on Portage Avenue

Yafa Café opened in November 2017 in tribute to our mothers and grandmothers’ cooking — the food carts and market stalls around Broadway and the Winnipeg Farmers’ Market that taught us Arabic hospitality. Everything is made from scratch with Manitoba-sourced halal meat, local produce and spices we dry and grind in house, from Msakhan in four different styles to vegan and gluten-free plates. Sit under the Arabic décor, catch live music some evenings, or take a feast platter home.

So we’ve been driving by this place for a month and finally had a chance to stop in. Incredible. Food is delicious (hot and fresh…hasn’t been sitting under a heat lamp for an hour). Not being experts in Middle Eastern cuisine, we had a lot of questions, all of which were answered with care and patience. The service was so good, and the whole vibe is warm…fantastic.
